Quick Review of the Kreg K4

Kreg K4 Pocket HoleJig System (K4 Jig)

The Kreg Jig K4, like the K3, boasts of three drill guide blocks for making pocket holes. This removable drill guide is suitable for both bench top as well as portable use.

It allows the user an optimized drilling angle, making work more efficient. The guide block also allows for spacings 9/16 inches, 7/8 inches, and 1-7/16 inches apart.

The K4 can be clamped to the work surface with a separate clamp and secured to the project before drilling holes to ensure maximum accuracy and cleaner holes. This tool can handle thicknesses between ½-inch and 1½-inch.

For a cleaner work station, this product comes with a dust collection shroud and a wood chip relief system that makes it possible to make a pocket hole without extra wood chips getting in the way.

The glass-reinforced nylon body of the K4 and the hardened-steel core of the drill guides provide this product with extra durability and sturdiness, making it suited for heavy-duty work. It is portable and convenient to use.

  • Large Clamping Recess allows the user to secure the jig on his work table with the help of a face clamp or any common bar clamp which maximizes convenience and ease
  • Sturdy Toggle Clamp on the rear side of the jig offers strength and rigidity while working while also making adjustments easy with the help of a locknut that simply needs to be released and rotated to the correct setting
  • Optimized drilling angle is designed for the best possible driving efficiency while at the same time, it minimizes the overall size of the pocket hole
  • Wood Chip Relief helps in making a pocket hole accurately in just one go by keeping the drill bit clear of any extra wood chips which also ensures that the bits last longer and the drill-torque does not suffer

Summary

Both the K3 and K4 by Kreg make drilling pocket holes a quicker and smoother process but when it comes to choosing one over the other, the K3’s two main bonus features appear pretty attractive.

But since K3 has been discontinued by the manufacturer, the K4 is the only choice available,  and swings most votes in its direction.
